Yesterday, Uganda Waragi whisked journalists away to a secret location following a mysterious invitation. At the secret location, atop Muyenga hill, a new campaign called the “UG Mix Maestro” was unveiled.

The three month long campaign will seek to recognize and celebrate the unique talent that deejays have to offer and is organized in collaboration with the DJ Association of Uganda (DJAU), an umbrella body formed in 2014 that brings together all DJ’s/VJ’s in Uganda.

Guests were served an entrée of Uganda Waragi cocktails on arrival. DJ Lorna was on the deck spinning the disks and setting the party mood. The ambience was a recreation of a night club. One needed to only step outside to realize the sun was still up.

Speaking at the event, Roy Tumwizere, Brand Manager, Uganda Waragi said the UG Mix Maestro would serve to recognize and celebrate exceptional local talent in deejaying. “The Spirit of Uganda celebrates all things Ugandan and our unique heritage. Music is a huge part of how we express ourselves as a people and we would like to give deejaying a platform to be recognized and celebrated.”

It will feature a number of activities like bar activations, in-store special promotional offers, house parties and regional tours that will include deejay battles. The UG Mix Maestro will explore and recognize talent, set a foundation to professionalize the Ugandan DJ industry and celebrate and honor DJ’s contribution to Uganda’s music industry.

The campaign will come to a close at a grand finale at which top deejays in various categories will be crowned. Some of the awards up for grabs include Best Male/Female Battle DJ, Rising Star Award, TV DJ of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year, Events DJ of the Year, Club DJ of the Year, Gospel DJ of the Year and Outstanding Achievement Award.

The awards will be adjudicated by three judges who are also professional DJ’s. These are Liven Peeters (DJ Rox), Adero Marianne (DJ Maryjo) and Walye Seth Ciza (DJ Ciza).

Also in attendance were DJ’s Aludah, Urbanstar, Lorna, among others.
